FUNNIEST MOMENT 2003

"DR. BUNNAWAY'S BLAST"

Another "Cops and Robbers" specialty game in Splat City. Because these games are more "acting" than "paintball" (in the conventional sense), these games are "by invitation only". Ask any actor, you have to improvise because of prop failures.

The mentally disturbed Dr. Bunnaway, a reoccurring character created by Eric Easterday, was threatening to detonate a pipe bomb (a paint landmine) and do bodily harm to himself and those around him. One of the officers was attempting to "talk him down", while the other two officers took up strategic positions with pistols drawn. It became apparent to the three officers that Dr. Bunnaway was attempting to lure them into the building (The Keep). The officers remained outside the building, and kept the suspect in view through the windows. Totally in character as a rambling and pacing madman, Dr. Bunnaway entangled himself in his own "trip-wire" booby-trap (a second landmine) and detonated the second landmine he had hidden inside the building (to his own surprise). Staying in character, Dr. Bunnaway fell "dead" to the ground, still holding the "pipe bomb". As the officers cautiously approached, the pipe bomb accidentally discharged (WAY TOO CLOSE TO ERIC'S HEAD!!!). This moment was caught on video and, both Ted and Kathy agree, has been SPLATMANDU'S FUNNIEST MOMENT OF ALL TIME. Of course, like most things, it's funny until someone gets hurt. We're happy to report that the blast only TEMPORARILY deafened Eric (but it took quite a while to clean the paint out of his ear).
