| The
Best Professions in the Old West
By Staff Writer
EDGE
CITY EPITAPH
In the town of
Edge City, you would be hard-pressed to find a profession
that won't make you coin. There are currently positions
open at both the CJW Ranch out of the Mine Field and KB
Ranch in Apex. These two Ranches are new to town, so act
quickly, as the specialty jobs are in limited supply. There
are always openings for Ranch hands, so don't be discouraged
if the job you were searching for isn't available. Due to
the nature of the Old West, there is a short life expectancy
for most jobs, so openings might come available as the time
goes on. Be aware that many of these professions are seasonal,
so they might not all be available off the get-go. For the
viewing pleasure of our readers, we have outlined below
the six best professions:
Number
One: COWBOY (10 characters per
Ranch + Top Five Member) - APRIL release
 |
As a COWBOY in Edge City, securing and trading
LIVESTOCK is the name
of the game. It takes a tough attitude and excellent
hand-eye coordination to
wrangle these beasts. The Stockyard is currently paying
top-dollar for cows and
horses, as they are in short supply around these parts.
Each COWBOY can carry up
to FIVE LIVESTOCK
In addition, to blow off steam, many of the COWBOYS
attend the Local Rodeo
for some extra coin. Held on the first Sunday of each
month, COWBOYS can test
their skills and earn their Ranch money for the best
event held that day. |

Two: GAMBLER (10 characters per
Ranch + Top Five Member) - APRIL release
The
GAMBLERS of Edge City have the potential to win big.
Financially backed by the local Ranches, and
the best 5-Card Poker hand wins that Ranch a $50.00
purse. PLAYING CARDS must be collected in order to
get the best hand, so GAMBLERS must keep their eyes
open when traveling the countryside, as to secure
as many cards as possible.
Each GAMBLER can carry up to FIVE PLAYING
CARDS
In addition,
every GAMBLER needs to blow off some steam. At the
Saloon in Edge City, even the most inexperienced Gambler
can bet it all - and win BIG. Why not risk some (or
all ) of the poker chips and see what happens? You
can always cash out with the dealer and take your
winnings to the Bank... if you're yella' that is.... |

Number
Three: GUN SLINGER (10 characters
per Ranch + Top Five Member) - MAY
release
|
|
GUN SLINGERS have the run of Edge City. These few
brave souls must posess
the
quick hand and keen eye to survive the rough-and-tumble
streets. Because of
their
chosen line of work, GUN SLINGERS are allowed to carry
up to four pods
of
paint. In addition, GUN SLINGERS must constantly procure
AMMO BOXES
in
order to keep their Ranch's stock up. AMMO must be
returned to the
Ranch's
established HOMESTEAD.
Each GUN SLINGER can carry up to FIVE
AMMO BOXES
As a GUN SLINGER, be prepared to be called out on
the street after the
game is done. With only two Ranches in this town, the
chance of a DUEL is a
real possiblity. There are strict regulations in Edge
City when it comes to a gun
fight, so if you wish to challenge a
rival GUN SLINGER, TED'S REDS Law will
moderate the activite. There is a hefty purse available
for those brave souls who
wish to accept the challenge ..... and risk their
reputation. |
Number
Four: FUR TRAPPER (10 characters
per Ranch + Top Five Member) - JUNE release
|
|
The FUR TRAPPERS of Edge City possess the skills every
average citizen
dreams
of. The wildlife in the area is over-running the prime
grazing and building
grounds. PELTS collected should be taken back
to Ranch's established
HOMESTEAD.
Each FUR TRAPPER can carry up to FIVE PELTS
Maybe one of the best assets a FUR TRAPPER can possess
is the ability to
communicate with the local savages, the RED'S
SKINS. However, Make sure
you have your beads clearly visible when approaching,
as the RED'S SKINS
don't appreciate the intrusion on their sacred
grounds. If you have a good deal or
trade, they might let you leave with
your dignity (and scalp) attached. |
Number
Five: MINER (10 characters
per Ranch + Top Five Member) - JULY release
|
MINERS
new to this area have an untapped resource at their
disposal. It
has been said that "them there hills"
contain precious jewels! This has been
a secret for some time, but now the word is
out, so MINERS, grab your
pick ax, and go mining!
Each MINER can carry up to FIVE SOIL
SAMPLES
Each SOIL SAMPLE taken by a MINER should be
taken to the
STOCKYARD in Edge City. At that time, MINERS
should dump the
contents of their sample into the sifter and
see what treasures lie within.

Six: RANCH HAND (available to
ALL players not pre-designated)
| The
RANCH HAND is the most common profession (and the
most valuable) in Edge City. As a RANCH HAND, you
can try your hand at collecting the goods from all
the above-mentioned specialty professions. The two
Ranches in town are designated by the team brand as
shown. They are always looking for extra help.
Each RANCH HAND can
carry ONE of each ITEM
(up to FIVE)
This
means you can carry one:
LIVESTOCK
PLAYING CARD
AMMO BOX
FUR PELT
SOIL SAMPLE
As a RANCH
HAND, you can turn any of these items in to their
appropriate location for coins. You can carry as many
coins on your person as you want, but beware! You
might lose all the hard-earned money you've collected
for your
Ranch if
you meet your maker on the field, so best to get your
coins to your HOMESTEAD or to the BANK as soon as
you can! |
