News Updates: August 14, 2011
That’s more like it! Weather held (barely) for our “do-over” Scenario Sunday. Thank you to all of you who ignored the weather reports and came out to play. We had one new club member added today; thank you for joining us!
On a very special note, we were joined today by “Lil” Shay and Papa Shay. It was so wonderful to see you both and God Bless you in the upcoming months. You are family to us and our thoughts and prayers are always with you.
Today’s Scenario (written by Karl) was a great concept… in post-apocalyptic times, it would be important to get gasoline! Located on the road between West Nile Pond and the Star building were 48 cans, each marked with various gasoline insignias. At the conclusion of the group briefing, each team was given only minutes to get lined up on either side of the road (Blue - Tippmann side) and Gray (Fangorn side). At 3-2-1-GO…. the objective was to grab a gasoline canister one at a time and return it to each team’s designated depot: Blue - Hillbilly Shack and Gray - Smuggler’s Den.
Since this game was only 60 minutes, time was of the essence to get these canisters back to the depot, as well as protect it from the other team. This game was thought to have occurred at a different location than other games this season, therefore all other supplies (bandages, water, food etc.) were out of play today. Reinsertion was single man, out either side of the Neutral Zone.
For the first 20 minutes of the game, Gray held a commanding lead, removing the first 7 canisters from the road and returning them to their depot, as well as holding off the Blue forces. Eventually Blue turned the tides, pushing Gray back past Fangorn by controlling the Star Building. This building proved to be a pivotal piece of real estate during the game… whomever controlled the Star Building, controlled the gas canisters.
It appeared that miscommunications on the field that all canisters were already gone (although at mid-game the count was still 32 canisters) caused the battles to cease at the road and ramp up at both team’s depots. Blue team was first back to the canisters but in the last 10 minutes of the game, the Gray team made a push for the road, removing another 2 canisters. Co-Captain Stephanie held the line alone and proceeded to remove an additional 10+ canisters one at a time, depositing them behind bunkers in Gray-held territory in hopes that her team would return to take them back, but to no avail.
At the conclusion of the game, the TWIST was revealed! Since each game has been explained at the briefing, we decided to to a double TWIST… twist # 1 was that we did the twist in August, not September, as been expected in the past few years. What made twist # 2 more important was the contents of the gas canisters. While logic would dictate that the larger canisters would have more gas, it was not the case today. Located in 24 of the cans were poker chips, denoting the amount of usable gas in the cans. Those without poker chips were considered tainted gas, which was therefore useless. The denominations were as follows: Red = 50 gallons, White = 30 gallons, and Blue = 10 gallons.
All counted up, Blue was victorious for the day, having 190 usable gallons, while the Gray team had 160 usable gallons.
Totals through August:
Blue (The New Manhattan Alliance) - 5
Gray (Reformed American Allegiance) - 0
Thank you all for another great day of paintball. Hope you all had a wonderful time, and we will see you soon!
