News Updates: July 4, 2010

What a HOT day for some One Ball Scenario play! A total of 13 more waivers were signed today; I bet you didn’t expect your first time at Splatmandu would be playing without your hopper! Keeping up the break-up of the 110er list, today we honored Crystal for her help with the reffing and excellent Specialty character reffing abilitiesThank you so much - your skills definately add flair (and sometimes frustration) to the games!

For the fourth installment of the War Games Scenario, we ran CROSSWORD! The Blue (Roughnecks) had 25 players and Gray (Last Chancers) had 23. After Ted gave the Splatmandu Safety briefing, Ted’s Reds Specialty Characters (13 of them) were released onto the field of play and the Game rules were left for game-designer Kathy to explain.

The 90 minute max time, winner-take-all game kicked off at 2:00pm and both teams had to solve a drawing from the Pictionary deck to be released onto the field of play. This would be the standard reinsertion method for the game. Gray was first to solve their drawing, which gave them about a 10 second head-start over Blue to reach the field. Both teams quickly shot out onto the field (Blue leaving from the Hornet’s Nest side, and Gray from the road side), scouring all paths for Poker chips, each designated by team color.

Once found, a player would return their chip to Amy in the Neutral Zone so she would reveal a clue to the corresponding player’s tag. If they knew the answer, they would answer the question on the giant Crossword board. If not, they would have to play Pictionary to be released back onto the field where they could ask a teammate the answer to the question, find another poker chip, and then re-enter the Neutral Zone to try again.

The Ted’s Reds were playing defensive today - guarding a red can which contained the clues to each of the spaces on the Crossword puzzle. No team was able to secure this can prior to the conclusion of the game, although Blue did get to the Cottage moments after the horn sounded.

Unfortunately for Blue, spelling errors and incorrect responses on the Crossword board allowed Gray the win for the day. Blue successfully answered 16 clues correctly, while Gray had 18 correct. Watching the quick answers to the Pictionary reinsertions was great… we never knew we had so many talented artists out there!

 Totals through July:

Gray (Last Chancers) - 3

Blue (Roughnecks) - 1

Thank you to everyone who played very hard for your teams today despite the intense heat. We thank you again for all you do for our Club. Thank you so much and keep up the good work! See you next weekend!
