Wow. What a great weekend! On Saturday, Splatmandu hosted our Five-Man Tournament sponsored by Medallion Management Inc., with the help of Freelance Fundraising. We added 12 more waivers to the list as well!
Our five teams were amazing! Because the format mirrored those already in place for a standard Hornet’s Nest game (along with standard Splatmandu safety rules), everything went incredibly smooth. Each team played hard, fast and with HONOR. The paintchecks were kept to a minimum and there were no problems at all. Only changes were 15 minute time limits, points awarded for alive/clean players at the end of the game, as well as points awarded for touching the rail.
The first round started around 10:30am and was completed by Noon, with the two lowest-scoring teams eliminated. We broke for a great lunch of grilled hamburgers, cooked to perfection by Karl and Ted. Thank you to Medallion Management for supplying the burger patties, and the club for providing buns, chips and condiments.
After the lunch break, the final three teams battled it out to bring the numbers down to two. Going into the final round (best of three games) were (#1) Rod/Tony and boys and (#5) Scotty B’s crew. They each played 8 games to get through this - a LOT of wonderful paintball witnessed throughout the day. Unfortunately, Dando injured his OTHER ankle and Colby had to leave early, but Scotty was prepared and had substitutes ready to play.
Winning the first two games in the final round to secure the win was team # 1 Rod and Tony’s team - but those young boys who rounded out the team sure rose to the occassion (Rendell, Jerry and Radley - wow - very impressive games - your paintball skills improve every Sunday you play!!!). Each and every one of them played awesome paintball and each and had their individual moments to shine!
Team # 1 won all eight of their games. Plus, each round started over with a zeroed score (so that one team could not “pull away” from the others and potentially win the trophy before the finals).
The big winner of the day was the United Way! This event raised $200. Since this was such a smashing success, we WILL do this
again in the future. However, for any upcoming tournaments, we will continue to support our local charity (the Domestic Assault Shelter in Three Rivers) with any proceeds generated by a tournament at Splatmandu.
Special thanks to our many referees who opted out of the tournament to make sure everything went smoothly for the rest. Thank you to Ted, Kathy, Nate, Karl, Amy, Jen, Shannon and Eric Crippin for all your help! Thank you to Freelance Fundraising for purchasing that LARGE trophy on behalf of Medallion Managment, as well as for the player tags for the event.
On Sunday the thunderstorms prohibited us from taking the field to play. I guess that is a welcome relief for those that participated in Saturday’s event… that was A LOT of Paintball… rest up!
REMEMBER, next weekend, although it is also the 4th of July Holiday, will be our ONE-BALL SCENARIO SUNDAY. The game is planned (and will be awesome for all involved) so leave your hopper at home and come on out!
