BIG GAME XIII
What an AMAZING DAY. We thank each and every one of you for being a part of it. Starting off, we would like to honor Tony Reigle (BIG T!) the recipient of the “Above and Beyond Award.” Thank you for all you do, and for putting up with all of us! You deserve it Tony.
We added 21 new club members for our 13th Annual BIG GAME, bringing our total to 478 so far for 2009 - with one more weekend left in the season. Thanks for joining us today… hope you had a great time.
For our final chapter of the Hatfield and McCoy Scenario, the Hatfields (Blue) had 72 players and started the game with 50,000 points, and the McCoys (Gray) had 73 players and started with 45,000 points.
There were five flag stations with random readings, still parts hidden all over, sealed Tunic Missions, a Teamwork Mission, Moonshine Jug, Specialty Characters and Captain/Co-Captain Life cards, and last but not least, the Tug of War! Both teams put up an amazing fight for the entire two hour game. The battles were mainly concentrated to the Hornet’s Nest for the Tug of War - which much like the “Horse Race” of MAFIA WARS 2006 - had unlimited scoring potential at 1,000 per game. Early on, both teams held the Hornet’s Nest in a 50/50 split, but soon the Hatfields took control and secured a commanding lead of the game. Tug of War totals: Hatfields: 26,000 to McCoys: 1,000.
The Moonshine Jug (worth 5,000 points) was never recovered, although it was reported that Captain Chad of the McCoys was only a few feet from the jug almost off the break.
Both teams were successful in finding many of the hidden still parts across the field of play, although neither team was able to get the parts onto their designated still bases at either starting rail in the Hornet’s Nest. Should this have happened, it was a potential of 1,000 points per part, and if assembled, would have earned 5,000 points.
The Hatfields were first to complete the Teamwork Mission, which earned them 10,000 points. Additionally, both Brian and Stephanie of the Hatfields were able to get to their Tunic Missions first, (the envelope and the journal at 2,000 points each) which earned an additional 4,000 points. Tunic-wearer Matt of the McCoys was first to his Tunic mission (the ever-elusive pig) and earned the McCoys 2,000 points.
As far as flag stations are concerned, the Hatfields controlled both the School and City Rail for the entirety of the game, earning 13,000 points each, for a total of 26,000. The McCoys controlled both Tippmann and Mag, also earning 26,000. The Tee Pee area flag station recorded mixed readings, with 2 readings for the McCoys (4,000 points) and 2 readings plus the final bonus for the Hatfields (9,000 points).
The Life Cards turned into Amy were as follows:
Captain James (Blue) - 1,000 for Gray
Co-Captain Josh (Blue) - 500 for Gray
Captain Chad (Gray) - 1,000 for Blue
Co-Captain Eric (Gray) - 300 for Blue
Specialty Characters (the Feds Captain and his recruits) 3,000 for Blue and 1,000 for Gray.
Lastly and UNFORTUNATELY, there were points deducted from BOTH TEAMS for penalties. Without getting into specific detail, points were deducted for Mask Violations, Barrel Plug issues, and Referee shots taken. The Hatfields lost 3,000 points, and the McCoys lost 5,000 points.
Team totals for BIG GAME XIII:
Hatfields: 126,800
McCoys: 76,200
We were so proud of the heart and competitiveness shown in each and every player on the field today. It was amazing to watch, and it sounded like everyone had a great time. After the game, the BIG GAME picnic was a huge success. Thank you to Ted for giving up time on the field today to get the food, and also thank you to Shannon for getting all the great side dishes for us to enjoy. Thanks also go out to Maggie, Hunter and Katryn, for your excellent serving abilities. It is always appreciated. Thank you to all our referees for the day; it’s not always the most glamourous job, but someone’s got to do it, and we thank you for it! After everyone was fed, the awards ceremony went as follows:
BIG GAME XIII winners - Hatfields (BLUE): Captain James Jackson and Co-Captain Josh Howley
Sportsmanship - “Referee” Nate
Shot of the Year - Wild Bill ” Bill and the Barracaded Bride”
Golden Crutch - Ted Cross
Ted’s Reds Spotlight Award - Todd Tippett “Leader of the Pack”
MVP - Brien Duke
Amy’s Enforcer - Super Mike
Du Dog Award - Amy Baker
On Monday, Kathy, Shannon and Jen made the delivery to the Domestic Assault Shelter on behalf of the club. $2,500.00 was donated in canned goods. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your efforts both throughout the season as well as the final outpouring of canned goods on BIG GAME. It was truly amazing.
With proceeds from the raffle ($274.00), T-Shirts ($102.00), Du rags ($25.00), Donation Jar ($247.21) and Paint Sales ($640.00), we were able to take that extra cash and go shopping to get the perishables the Shelter needed as well. This brought us to a total in donations of about $3,800.00 for the 2009 season. THANK YOU. This is truly a gift to these women, and it’s all possible because of the generosity of our members. Be proud of yourselves, we are!
Remember, there is still ONE MORE WEEKEND of play at Splatmandu for the season. After that, the month of October is devoted to preparing the fields for SplatmanBOO Haunted Forest. If you are interested in helping out, we work on the fields every weekend, as well as the event is Halloween Night - starting at 8:00pm.
Thank you all for an amazing 15th season. If there is enough interest, we may even be around for a Season 16! Field work for Season 16 kicks off the first Saturday in February, 2010. See you there!
